A tale of App Store shenanigans and skulduggery

February 15, 2011

As you might know we have an iPhone app called PhotoFrame and an iPad app called PhotoFramePlus. The other day I did a quick search for it in the App Store (I wanted to copy the link to send to someone) and I came across a competing app called PhotoFrame Pro HD by MAX CA APPS. So I thought I’d have a little look at the competition, and what I found turned out to be rather interesting…

PhotoFramePlus featured on Stylish iPad Apps

Thanks Guys – Stylish iPad Apps.

PhotoFramePlus Holiday sale

December 22, 2010

Just a quick post to let you know that PhotoFramePlus is on sale for the Holiday period – grab a copy now for just 99c (59p)!

It’s a great little photoframe app that improves on Apple’s own slideshow feature by adding a clock, calendar display and full screen year-to-view calendar view. Another little trick it has up its sleeve is intelligently crop and resize your images to fill the screen whatever orientation so that you’ll never see those black bars.

PhotoFramePlus 1.3 live

August 12, 2010

We’re pleased to announce that the latest version has gone live today. We’d recommend that all users update to the latest (more stable) version.

If anybody is still having any problems please let us know.

PhotoFramePlus 1.3 submitted

August 10, 2010

PhotoFramePlus users will be pleased to know that we’ve tracked down the gremlin that was causing the app to crash on launch.

A new version has been submitted to Apple and will (hopefully) be available any day now. Sorry it took so long to fix (mainly due to the fact that our lead programmer was on holiday and completely out of contact) and thanks for your patience.

PhotoFramePlus ‘August bug’

August 2, 2010

As a lot of you have noticed, as of August 1st, PhotoFramePlus has been crashing at launch.

The fact that it stopped working on August 1st indicates it must be a calendar related bug but we can’t think what’s special about the date. Has anybody had any problems with other date related apps? We’re looking into it now and will let you know as soon as we can offer a fix.

We can only apologize for the inconvenience and assure you we will get the problem resolved.

PhotoFramePlus Sale

May 28, 2010

The iPad finally reaches Europe today and to celebrate we’re slashing the price of PhotoFramePlus by 2/3rds. That’s right grab a copy now for just 59p! Of course the offer is open to the US too where you’ll get it for the bargain price of 99c (and everywhere else for that matter…)

In case you haven’t come across PhotoFramePlus here’s all you need to know:

If you intending to use your iPad as a digital photo frame you’ll love PhotoFramePlus. PhotoFramePlus is an improvement over the iPad’s built-in slideshow in several ways. We’ve added a time and date display which turns your iPad into a beautiful personalised desktop calendar. A quick tap of the finger displays a full year’s calendar (with week numbers) and if your pictures are a mix of wide and tall, PhotoFramePlus intelligently scales and crops them to fit, so you always get a full screen image – no more black bars! And, it doesn’t stop there. We’ll be adding new screens that add new features and more functionality. You tell us what screens you want and we’ll build them for you!

Check out PhotoFramePlus’s dedicated website for more info.

PhotoFramePlus & iPad wallpapers

May 27, 2010

Our new iPad app PhotoFramePlus doesn’t just look good featuring pictures of your family and pets – why not fill one of the galleries with something a bit more arty?

To get you started we’ve added a new page to the site – iPad Wallpapers – with a collection of 20 fine wallpapers including the ones featured above. Of course you don’t have to use ours – you can use any images you find on the web – simply tap and hold any picture in Safari and choose ‘Save Image’ from the pop up menu to save the file to your Photo library.

PhotoFramePlus 1.1

May 20, 2010

Just a quick little post to announce that the first update to PhotoFramePlus has just gone live.

This is just a bug fix to sort out the disappearing time issue that happened if you laid your iPad flat and a couple of cosmetic tweaks that a few users have asked for. We’ve removed the Chilli X logo from the bottom of the screen (you’re right you don’t want to pay to see our branding) and dropped the intensity of the ‘i’ button in the bottom left so that it’s not quite so intrusive.

We’re currently working on the next update that improves the way we crop photos and adds a 3rd view that’s more discrete and covers up much less of the photos. We’ll post a preview shortly.

Photoframeplus is now live!

April 6, 2010

Photoframeplus – our first iPad app is now live!

Check it out in the iTunes store. If you like it, make sure to give it a great review!

Initial feedback from users testing on real iPads has been great, but we’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions – especially for future revisions. We are particularly interested in any small bugs that might occur when running on an actual iPad, so please let us know if you find any.

Also, check out a blog post by Aidan Hornsby – one of our resident icon and interface designers – explaining the concept and design process of Photoframeplus.

Watch this space for information on upcoming updates and functionality to the app.
