After an incredibly lengthy and torturous submission process, StarTime, our Star Trek clock homage, is finally available in the App Store!
Originally submitted in May to coincide with the release of the movie, StarTime has languished in submission hell for months before finally breaking free. If you’re interested in that, read all about it here & here… Otherwise, here’s all you need to know:
Chilli X, in collaboration with LCARS Computer Network, are proud to present StarTime, a date and time clock to keep you on time in your trek from star to star.
StarTime displays the time and date in a large easy-to-read display on your iPhone or iPod touch. Authentic animations and sounds will make you feel like you’re on the bridge of your favorite Starship.
StarTime overrides your auto-lock setting so your phone won’t automatically go to sleep making it ideal as a desk clock when your device is on charge or even a night stand clock using the built-in dimmer function.
The sounds can be set to play randomly, to chime on the hour or switched off all together. You can also choose to listen to music from your iPod while StarTime is running.

Seems to me this one have been one of those no-brainers to have in it.

Hi John
You’re right – we’ll look at adding that into an upcoming release.

Great that Mr. Okuda himself gives it a thumbs up!
I love it! I wrote to request alarm clock features.
I was already using “Photo Frame” as my desktop Trek clock but this is much cooler. 🙂
I passing on the link to all my friends and app review podcasts.

This is a work of art! I enjoy the random sounds and flashing buttons… looks very 24th-Century Starfleet! Maybe in the future buttons could be set for a couple specific app shortcuts?…

Fantastic and Beautiful!
How about a 24 hour clock function?
August 20, 2009 at 7:54 am |
Hi David
Thanks for the kind words! StarTime picks up the time settings from your iPhone (Settings > General > Data & Time) so should display a 24 hour clock if that’s what your iPhone does…
Some of our previous apps had a separate 24 hour toggle independent of the main setting but this was causing us lots of problems with users with unusual region settings so we decided to take the ‘our apps use your phone’s settings’ option. Hope this helps.

Thanks for this is! Currently my phone auto locks even if it is running. Am I missing a setting? Also, are there instructions for it to display when using the iPod app? Thank you for helping in keeping Trek alive and well!

Hi Felix
Not sure what’s going on there, if StarTime is running the screen really shouldn’t go off. We haven’t had any other reports of this so could you give us bit more info about your phone and settings. Can you email us at support@chillix.com with what model phone you’ve got, date and region settings, OS version. Auto-Off settings etc. and we’ll see if we can replicate the problem
As for listening to music while StarTime is running, just launch the iPod app, choose some music, press the Home button to leave the iPod app (the music should continue to play) and launch StarTime.

Been quite.

Hi Daniel
It’s holiday season and our pesky programmers wanted some time off. Normal service will be resumed soon…

I love the app but can’t get the date feature to work. What settings should I change?
thanks

Hi Pam
I was going to say ‘we’re not sure what you mean by not being able to get the ‘date feature to work’. The date should be displayed above the main time display…
Than we looked at StarTime running and noticed that the month is no longer displayed, just the day and year ie. 08 2009.
No idea what’s going on but we’ll look into and let you know…
