A new trend?

As an iPhone developer I can tell you categorically that the app won’t launch automatically when you plug into the dock. Apple don’t supply any way of making this happen – much as we’d like it to.
We (ChilliX) make a range of apps, many of which are designed to be used when your iPhone is docked and it’s a constant source of comments/feedback from users that want a particular app to launch automatically.
As for Rise & Shine – the dock itself is quite nice and minimal although the cheaper ($29) official Apple dock allows you to charge in the phone on it’s side or standing up. The software – although free, there’s any number of better looking and more fully featured alarm clocks out there including (shameless plug) our own NightTime Plus and Playlist Alarm Clock.
However, I do think it’s marking the beginning of an interesting trend – that of hardware and software bundles.
Kensington have just announced their new $40 Rise & Shine combination of physical iPhone dock and accompanying downloadable app.
